After telling our family, one of the first things we had to do when we decided to simplify our lives was to let go of our careers in the medical field. We then set out on the arduous task of sorting through our possessions one by one. We sold or gave away most of what we had spent years accumulating. Keeping only cherished items like photographs and the items we planned to take, we packed up what remained and moved into our temporary residence in my mother-in-law’s basement.
We were filled with a sense of liberation as we shed the weight of materialism and embraced the freedom of a minimalist lifestyle. Over the next month, we poured our hearts into preparing for our journey south to Mexico, where our floating home, Liahona, awaited us. Every spare moment was dedicated to provisioning, outfitting, and mentally preparing ourselves for the adventure that lay ahead. This encompassed not just our gear but also our vehicles. While our cars were ideal for city commutes, they were not well suited for transporting a substantial amount of provisions and navigating the roads of Mexico. As we counted down the days we were filled with anticipation, mingled with a hint of apprehension and excitement for the unknown. But amidst the chaos of preparation, one thing remained clear: this was the beginning of a new chapter. And so, we said goodbye to our family and friends and embarked on our journey towards Mexico, ready to embrace the challenges and rewards of life aboard Liahona
